Just as we all found out that John Salmons would be opting out of his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Bucks turn the tables and land star small forward Corey Maggette, while unloading disappointing talent in Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell.
There is still a small chance Milwaukee could resign Salmons to a long-term deal, but with Maggette now on the roster for three years and $31 million, that’s fairly unlikely.
Regardless, Milwaukee rids themselves of Gadzuric’s loaded contract and disappointing play, as well as Charlie Bell’s contract. In return, they get a bonafide star in Maggette, a strong and athletic scorer who can take over game and get to the free throw line at will.
It could still blow-up in Milwaukee’s face, but on paper, this situation couldn’t have worked out any better. With a new star small forward in town, it will be interesting to see which direction the Bucks head in the 2010 NBA Draft.
